Frequently Asked Questions
Information regarding background, data access, and collaboration.
PIKSEL was established through a strategic collaboration with Geoscience Australia, adopting Open Data Cube technology similar to the Digital Earth Australia platform. This initiative aims to build national geospatial data infrastructure independence to support more accurate decision making.
No. Most data and API services (WMS/WCS) on piksel.id are open to the public without registration. Account registration is only required if you want to use the Jupyter Sandbox service for private data processing and simulation.
We welcome collaboration with academics, researchers, and other institutions. You can contribute by developing analysis modules in the Sandbox, or contact our team directly for potential broader geospatial product development cooperation.
Currently we provide Analysis Ready Data from Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2 constellations, and historical Landsat archives. Data is presented in Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG) format to support fast and interoperable access.
Our platform indexes new data daily. Satellites themselves pass over Indonesian territory every day but at different locations following their orbit paths. For a specific location, Sentinel-2 will return every 5 days and Sentinel-1 every 6-12 days.
